Abstract

Bioenergy is energy derived from biofuel. Biofuels are energy derived directly or indirectly from organic material such as plant and animal waste. The introduction of biomass has led to the production of energy domestically and industrially.

Approximately about 15% of the world population precisely developing countries uses biofuel in the production of energy. This is so because developing nations produces energy traditionally through biomass such as wood, animal dung, farm produce etc.

Ghana unlike the other developing countries produces about 50,000 tonnes of farm produce and animal dung daily, making it the world number one country in the production of cocoa and also known in the production of livestock.

But how can Ghana being a developing country transform its economy through biofuel and bioenergy as a paradigm shift to power its economy,

Firstly, the need to use farm produce, wood, animal dung etc to produce biomass for the production of biofuel for energy should be done often. Through effective and efficient use of biofuel and bioenergy could help Ghana transform its economy in the era of energy crisis. Even though Ghana is known in the production of crude and natural gas, but with a careful and effective use of organic materials in the production of energy would help transform its economy.

In addition, biomass can be converted to convenient energy containing substances in three different ways,

Thermal conversion, chemical conversion  and biochemical conversion. This biomass conversion can result in fuel in solid, liquid, or gas form. This new biomass can also be used directly for biofuel

Moreover, this biomass can be used as fuel in vehicles, energy for production purposes, energy for domestic use among important domestic and industrial use.

The use of biofuel in our era has gain international recognition due to the growing world population but with limited crude reserves.

So as a developing country like Ghana, biomass which aid in the production of biofuel and bioenergy is the way to go to transform its economy. It is of importance for Ghana to explore all the advancement in biomass as a paradigm shift in powering it economy

In conclusion, exploring the advancement in the field of biofuels and bioenergy enhances effectiveness in the production of energy.
